INTRODUCTION

2000 Conferences

Microcosms held a conference entitled "Return to Wonder: Rethinking Museum Display in an Age of Didacticism" as an extension of the project's research residency at University of California Humanities Research Institute. The conference concerned the reintegration of "wonder" as a mode of knowledge production into contemporary art museum exhibitions, and was held on March 3-4, 2000, at the UCSB Interdisciplinary Humanities Center.

1999 Workshops

Microcosms held a series of four workshops at the University of California Humanities Research Institute in conjunction with a six-month research residency. The workshops served to conceptualize the planned exhibitions, symposia, and publications of the Microcosms project.

The themes of the four workshops were:

  • Curiosity Cabinets
  • Alter/Orders
  • Organizing Knowledge Today
  • Camillo and the Internet
